Mambwe District is largely covered by the game management area of the South Luangwa National Park. Agriculture in this region suffers many setbacks due to the flash floods it experiences during the rainy season and its large quantity of wild-life. As such, the main sources of employment in this region comprise of tourism enterprises such as safaris, guest lodges and handicrafts. The largest burden faced by local government is finding ways to engage the youth in positive & meaningful activities and preventing them from becoming involved in poaching.
With this context in mind, and, in an effort to create a clear pathway for youth football development in the district, Mambwe was selected as the second district for OurPitch’s December 2024 FAZ-E License training program. The course was conducted between 18th to 22nd December 2024 and drew a total of 83 participants from all six chiefdoms - despite significant difficulties in accessibility. Indeed, 9 participants were from extremely remote regions such as Malama & Msoro Mnkhanya - highlighting the positive response to OurPitch’s efforts.
